I am a professionally trained editor/writer with certificates in editing and writing from the University of Washington.

Line editing is an opportunity to review your manuscript line by line, paragraph by paragraph at the chapter level to recommend additions, clarifications or possible cuts. It may just be an opportunity to shuffle things around so they flow better. Line editing will give your story the following help:

Line edits are different than copy edits which focus on spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. A copy edit is done to polish a manuscript prior to a final proof and publication. 

Upon delivery of your edited project, you will receive an annotated document with text edits and margin comments (Track changes in MS Word, .doc) and an editorial letter explaining my recommendations and feedback. (1-2 pages on average, .pdf)

Average Rate: $0.045 per word

Turnaround: 4 to 8 weeks

Copy editing takes place following developmental editing and before proofreading. The main objective of copy editing is to read through a written work to identify problems such as:

• Incorrect grammar
• Spelling
• Tone
• Wordiness
• Awkward transitions
• Confusing syntax
• Misused words
• Uneven flow

I work with editing tools such as the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed, Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary, and create individual style sheets for larger projects.

Upon delivery of your edited project, you will receive an annotated document with text edits and margin comments (Track changes in MS Word, .doc) if applicable, a style sheet outlining unique words, preferred wording, and grammar and style rules specific to your project (.pdf)

Average Rate: $0.035 per word

Turnaround: 3 to 6 weeks

Proofreading takes place after copy editing and before the work is published. I can help you prepare your content for publishing by looking for:

• Typos
• Spelling errors
• Formatting mistakes

Proofreading is the "final eye" of the editing process.

Upon delivery of your edited project, you will receive an annotated document with highlights and comments (Track changes in MS Word, .doc) if applicable, a style sheet outlining unique words, preferred wording, and grammar and style rules specific to your project (.pdf)

Average Rate: $0.020 per word

Turnaround: 3 to 6 weeks
